Delphi - attracts thousands of tourists every year. Delphi is the most important archaeological destination. They called the "omphalos", or navel of Gaia. Delphi have visitors all year round. The taxi starts from Itea, a small town at the Crissaikos gulf. Itea is a unique tourist port in the region to the archaeological site and the Museum of Delphi, which is located 17 km from Delphi. The Archaeological Museum of Delphi contains important artifacts to the ancient history of the region in space 14 halls. Also worth visiting the oracle, the ancient stadium, the temple of Athena, the sources of Apollo, Castalia Source and the European Cultural Centre.
The view of Itea is the Corinthian gulf and Peloponissos and at the back is the olive grove of Amfissa,which is protected from UNESCO.
Itea has two mountains Gkiona and Parnassos,the mountain that homes Delphi and Arachova,were the ski center is at.The combination of sea and mountains makes Itea an ideal destination all year long.Here,beats the heart of Roumeli,when in the celebration of Easter the roasting of the lambs in the roads of the town takes place,which is something unique in Greece.Also,the beaches of Itea are perfect for relaxation due to the clean waters.
Sightseeings
Moving up at Parnassos is the traditional village of Arachova. In Arachova you can find the ski center and the traditional cuisine and in winter becames an ideal destination for every skiier. In the summer is perfect for a break from the summer heat.
At a 17 km distance is the traditional seaside village of Galaxidi. At the beautiful Galaxidi you can see the temple of Saint Nicolas with the uniqly beautiful wooden picture with the Old and new Testament. Also,you can find the Nautical Museum which exhibits the nautical history of Greece. Of course,near Galaxidi there are plenty of beaches for those who want to go for swimming.
At an aproximately 45 km distance,is the temple of Saint Lucas,an outstanding monument of Byzantine architecture. At the complex are two temples,the temple of Saint Lucas, where you can find the remains of Saint Lucas and next to it the Temple of Holy Mary. Also,in the complex is a museum with many exhibits and a garden with souvenir shops.
Near in the town of Itea is the monastery of Prophet Elias. The monastery is at an 400m altitude and provides an amazing view at the Corinthian Gulf.
